Mariah Gichu

Immensely passionate and ambitious in her musical art, Mary Gichu has an undergraduate degree in Music and Performing Arts, from The Technical University of Kenya(TUK) where she is also currently studying her Masters in Music Performance.

Mariah’s performance experience includes
  1. Performing in Eric Whiteacre’s virtual project  (2020) Sing Gently, the Kenya National Anthem Virtual project that was led by The Kenya Choral Directors Trust
  2. Soloist in the Technical University of Kenya Choir and Bel Canto Chorus Nairobi
  3. Participated in the solo and duet classes (Opera, Soprano and Alto) in the Kenya Music Festivals where she emerged among the top several times.
Mariah is the Director of the St Veronica Parish Choir Syokimau; Assistant Director of Bel Canto Chorus, Nairobi; Volunteer choir trainer of the YCS choir (TUK); a vocalist in Afribashasha Music band; a Vocal trainer, Voice coach, a peripatetic teacher and a choral musician in the Technical University of Kenya.
Mary recently participated in the highly acclaimed new Kenyan opera ‘Nyanga’ and The Sound of Music where she sang the pricipal role of Obudo, Nyanga’s frivolous younger sister and the role of Baronnes Elberfeld and a Nun respectively.
Mary is a professional musician who plans to start her own opera school to help and nurture young talents in the country. She looks forward to pursuing her PHD in Music Performance(DMA)
